Today was my last WOD (where I’ll be pushing myself hard) before the Tough Mudder in Toronto this weekend.  I’ll be taking the rest of the week off to travel and rest before the event.

I climbed up the Cholla Trail of the Camelback Mountain this Sunday with a friend.  We then went down the Echo Canyon side and ran the 2 1/2 miles of sidewalk back to the cars.  This is what it looked like:   So… I’m still a little sore and could use the rest.

The WOD today focuses on the areas I always want/need to be stronger when going through these events.  Arm/grip strength, core, and leg stamina – very similar to what you would experience during a mud run.

Here it is!

WOD -8-13-14

Warm up: 10-20 minute light jog, followed by stretching (simulating a warm up before the actual event)

Main set: (minimum 4 sets)

  • 20 Air Squats
  • 20 Box Jumps
  • 20 Dips
  • 20 pullups

It’s really as simple as that.  If you feel comfortable pushing past more than four sets, then keep going!  Hit it as hard as you can!  I got through 9 before I started tripping over myself on the box jumps and really started sucking wind…

Cool down with a stretch and re-hydrate.

I’ll try to post my pre-event nutrition ritual on Friday.  Until then, wish me good luck on Sunday when I’ll be running with team, “Mudder Lode”(sic).  I’m excited!
